Baltimore County Needs Your Support! Here’s what you need to know…
Two bills introduced at the last County Council session are particularly important to our community:
• Bill 18-25, sponsored by Councilman David Marks, requires a solar facility to be located more than 1,000 feet from properties with solar facilities. This bill helps protect a councilmanic district from having too many solar facilities located in close proximity.
• Bill 19-25, sponsored by Councilmen Marks, Kach, Ertel, Patoka, and Crandell, would allow the voters of Baltimore County decide in 2026 whether to amend the County Charter to require a super majority of Councilmembers to change the Urban Rural Demarcation Line (URDL). The councilperson whose district would be affected by a change to the URDL must vote in favor of the change. Development pressures on the URDL have been increasing, County Council will probably be expanded to 9 members after next year’s election, and many current Council members will be stepping down. This bill should help protect the URDL from any attempts to make it possible to develop land that should remain undeveloped.
Please let County Council members know you support these bills by sending them a short email and/or signing up to testify at a Council work session on Tuesday, March 11, or Tuesday, April 1. We’re hoping to have a good turnout, particularly at the April 1 work session, to demonstrate the important role the URDL plays in the life of everyone who lives in Baltimore County. Limiting development to certain areas helps keep the air you breathe and the water you drink clean, no matter if you live inside or outside the URDL.
You may sign up to speak either in person or virtually on the day of the work session between 9 AM and 3 PM. Click here for links to each councilperson’s email and phone number.
